Interview with Eddy De Robertis

Recently Current Biology published an very inspiring interview with the great scientist Eddy De Robertis. This man needs no introduction , but still for some young readers here is short summary of the famous embryologist of the present era . Eddy was born in Cambridge ,grew up in South American country Uruguay and also did his MD in this country. Later he moved to Leloir Institute in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for his Ph.D. in Chemistry . After completing his ph.D he worked with Sir John Gurdon for his post doctoral training. In the interview published by Current Biology , Eddy Robertis share the interesting story which led him to John Gurdon lab’s for post doc. The other main aspects of the interview deal with the views of Eddy on evo devo , his early scientist life in Basel and about the impact of Discovery of homeodomain in Drosophila by his colleague Walter gehring.

I personally like the advice he has given to the beginners in Biology. The whole interview can be read here

What advice would you give someone starting a career in biology?
Jump into it both feet forward. Get yourself admitted intothe best lab possible. Wash dishes, plead, volunteer, or do whatever you need to do to secure an experienced advisor whose published work
you found the most interesting read.Be fearless. Do not take into consideration which areas offer best future employment opportunities, just get into the lab you find most exciting. Move to anywhere in the world where the best possible advisor is located.
