2009 is the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth and 150 years after he published On the Origin of Species and many magazines, blogs and channels are coming out with some very interesting facts about the genius of evolution to celebrate these two anniversaries. So here i am sharing some interesting links from various sites :
Sciencenews has a special Web edition which includes expanded versions of articles from the magazine’s print edition plus two additional features, all commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin. Unfortunately many are for …

ImageJ is a public domain, Java-based image processing program developed at the National Institutes of Health. This extremely useful software was developed by Wayne Rasband (NIH) in 1997, is at the Research Services Branch of the National Institute of Mental Health. The near-comprehensive range of import filters that allow easy access to image and meta-data, a broad suite processing and analysis routine, and enthusiastic support from a friendly mailing list are invaluable for all microscopy labs and facilities-not just those on a budget. ImageJ’s plugin architecture and built in development environment …

Gateway technology is considered to be a wonder tool in molecular biology providing faster ,easier and accurate way of cloning your gene of interest in study. This efficient technology uses att recombination sites and clonase enzyme brings in the needed recombination. To perform a gateway cloning first step will be to get the gene of interest in Entry vector to make a entry clone and later can be easily transferred into destination vectors ( with tags ) by performing LR reactions catalysed clonase enzyme. ( For more details on Gateway …

Hox genes are homeodomain containing transcription factors playing a crucial role in patterning the antero-posterior ( AP) axis in bilaterians. The mechanism of patterning by Hox genes is remarkably conserved across the entire bilateria even though huge diversification of body plan exists. The fact that orthologous genes display similar genomic organisation and expression patterns with comparable spatial and temporal characteristics in distantly related species has provided clues for understanding the evolution of the body plan. It was with discovery of homeodomain and later with similarity of Hox clusters in Mice and …

Darwin -The genius of evolution is the channel dedicated by BBC to celebrate this special year of evolution. As everyone knows this year most of us are celebrating Charles Darwin’s scientific ideas and their impact around his two hundredth birthday on 12 February 2009. Ever since the first publication of his magnum opus “on the Origin of species ” in 1859 where he explained his remarkable theory of evolution by Natural selection, which even 150 years of publication still inspiring many scientists to understand completely how life originated and evolved …

Want to know any information related to genome sequences ? Then GOLD might be able to solve your every possible problem. It is a comprehensive overview of genome and ESTs projects, both finished and on-going. It harbors currently data on 4434 genome projects covering Archea, Bacteria plus metagenomes and Eukaryotes.
I would like thank Morgane THOMAS-CHOLLIER, Ph.D. from Laboratoire de Bioinformatique des Génomes et Réseaux, Universite Libre de bruxelles (ULB) for writing this article on Hoxful monsters and also for making me aware of this wonderful resource on …

This is just awesome !!!! There can hardly be any better example of Watching an animal getting to life. Bruno Vellutini created an video depicting the life cycle of the sea biscuit Clypeaster subdepressus, which was a part of his masters thesis. Its really a beautiful done video displaying all the stages of sea biscuits life cycle ,beginning from the induction of gametes and following the whole embryonic development under the microscope. Embryos later gets into pluteis larvae form with two arms (its the stage which i particularly liked a …
