The place of genetically modified crops in sustainable agriculture has been the subject of heated debate for decades. A new book takes an innovative approach to this debate by presenting the perspectives of an unlikely pair of co-authors . Pam Ronald is a plant molecular biologist, genetic engineer, and supporter of genetically engineering crops for the benefit of humanity.
Raoul Adamchak is an organic farmer. Given the known antagonism of many organic advocates to genetically engineered (GE) crops, one would not have thought these two authors would be able to …

Antennapedia ( Antp) class of Homeobox genes ( Hox, Para Hox and Nk genes) are considered to have played a very important role in diversity of animal body plan. Information obtained from genome sequences of diploblastic animals like Cntenophores and sponges reveal that they have only Nk genes from the Antp class and sponges lacked Hox genes from the beginning or had lost them during evolution.Information of these important developmental regulators in basal species provide valuable information for their role in higher organisms, as they are highly conserved through out …

Misconceptions and Myths regarding evolution:
Recently , arguably the greatest and most important book ever written “Origin of species” by Charles Darwin completed 150 years ,in which he gave compelling evidence for evolution. But still many people have either misunderstood evolution or even adamantly denied by a large proportion of the public. Infact evolution is as validated as some great laws of physics like that of Newton and plays a very important role in understanding physical world.
Countless fossil discoveries allow us to trace the evolution of today’s organisms from forms …

Darwin defined the term Evolution as “descent with modification.” In common terms, biological evolution is the process of change by which new species develop from preexisting species over time and in genetic terms, evolution can be defined as any change in the frequency of alleles in populations of organisms from generation to generation.

“Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution”. Theodosius Dobzhansky
Usually evolution and natural selection are regarded as synonyms ( because of popularity of Darwin and his concept), but Natural selection is one of …

The largest Stone Age graveyard found in the Sahara, which provides an unparalleled record of life when the region was green, has been discovered in Niger by National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence and University of Chicago Professor Paul Sereno, whose team first happened on the site during a dinosaur-hunting expedition.
The remarkable archaeological site, dating back 10,000 years and called Gobero after the Tuareg name for the area, was brimming with skeletons of humans and animals — including large fish and crocodiles. Gobero is hidden away within Niger’s forbidding Ténéré Desert, known to …

A virus that commonly infects potatoes bears a striking resemblance to one of the key proteins implicated in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and researchers have used that to develop antibodies that may slow or prevent the onset of AD.
Studies in mice have demonstrated that vaccinations with the amyloid beta protein (believed to be a major AD contributor) to produce A antibodies can slow disease progression and improve cognitive function, possibly by promoting the destruction of amyloid plaques. Some early human trials have likewise been promising, but had to be halted due …
