A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available immediately to join the group of Matias Simons in Freiburg, Germany. The group investigates the mechanisms controlling planar cell polarity and membrane trafficking using cell culture, Drosophila melanogaster and mouse as experimental models [EMBO Journal, advance online publication; Current Biology 2010 Jul 27;20(14):1269-76, Nat Cell Biol. 2009 Mar;11(3):286-94, Annu Rev Genet. 2008;42:517-40, Nat Genet. 2005 May;37(5):537-43]. We are particularly interested in the role of these processes in human genetic diseases such as polycystic kidney and lysosomal storage diseases. The lab is funded by the Emmy-Noether-Program of the DFG and the German Ministry of Science and Education (BMBF). The group is also affiliated with the Renal Division of the Department of Medicine, University Hospital Freiburg. The lab is located in a brand new research center and is embedded within the attractive research environment of both the University Hospital and the basic research campus. The center is located in Freiburg, a beautiful city close to the Black Forest that offers excellent opportunities for cultural and outdoor activities.
The candidate should be holder of a PhD, MD or both degrees. The applicant is expected to have a strong interest in cell and developmental biology and solid background in working with Drosophila models. The successful candidate is expected to be highly motivated, to work independently and pursue an integrated approach involving classical genetic and modern imaging methodologies.
