Canadian science minister won’t say if he believes in evolution
Canada’s science minister, who is already in the center of the controversy over cuts in federal funding to researchers ,drew some more controversy when he refused to answer the question related to evolution. In an interview to “The Globe and Mail” Gary Goodyear, the federal Minister of State for Science and Technology, surprised everyone by saying :
“I’m not going to answer that question. I am a Christian, and I don’t think anybody asking a question about my religion is appropriate,” when asked if he believes in evolution. It really astonishing when highly responsible people fails to acknowledge such an important scientific fact, which has been proved beyond doubt and even accepted by many religions now.
First it was cuts in funds for researchers in many countries ( France ,Canada in News these days ) and now with this kind of behavior from people in charge of running science, things in the field of science seems be much worse that thought.
Evolution is a scientific fact and the foundation of modern biology, genetics and paleontology. It is taught at universities and accepted by many of the world’s major religions — Brian Alters, founder and director of the Evolution Education Research Centre at McGill University in Montreal
Science minister’s reluctance to answer the question regarding evolution might widen the gap more between researchers and him ,which is definitely not going to help science in Canada.
