GOLD – Genomes OnLine Database : An excellent resource
Want to know any information on genome sequences ? Then GOLD might be able to solve your every possible problem. It is a comprehensive overview of genome and ESTs projects, both finished and
on-going. It harbors currently data on 4434 genome projects covering Archea, Bacteria plus metagenomes and Eukaryotes.
I would like thank Morgane THOMAS-CHOLLIER, Ph.D. from Laboratoire de Bioinformatique des Génomes et Réseaux, Universite Libre de bruxelles (ULB) for contibuting to this article below and also for bringing into my notice such a useful resource on various genome sequences. Thanks Morgane once again!!!!
About GOLD:
Collective sequencing effort provides a huge and promising resource of data. However, it is sometimes difficult to find basic information such as Which organism has a completely-sequenced genome ? What are the ongoing projects ? By which institute ?
Genome OnLine (GOLD) (http://www.genomesonline.org/) aims at making an inventory of (almost !) all large-scale sequencing projects, genomic or
ESTs, for Archea, Bacteria plus metagenomes and Eukaryotes. Although graphics are a little old-fashioned, it is regularly updated, and currently holds 4434 projects. There is a very useful search system, based on diverse criteria like Phylum, Sequencing Status, Institution,… To access this search system, click on the “Gold tables” yellow button in the middle of the home page, and then click on the
“Search GOLD” link. To simply browse the data, click on the corresponding button (e.g. Eukaryote Ongoing Genomes). This site also provides up-to-date statistics with graphics.
