Harald zur Hausen ,Françoise Barré-Sinoussi and Luc Montagnier shared the Nobel prize for the year 2008 in Medicine and Physiology for thier classical work in identifying the roles of viruses in sexually transmitted diseases. Harald Zur Hausen ( Born 1936 ) from Germany has been rewarded for his discovery of human papilloma viruses (HPV) causing cervical cancer” and Françoise Barré-Sinoussi (Born 1947)/ Luc Montagnier (Born 1832) “for their discovery of human immunodeficiency virus”.

Ole Seehausen’s group from the University of Bern in Switzerland, studied cichlid fish in Lake Victoria in east Africa (home for over 500 species of cichlid’s )believes that vision could be the driving force for speciation.Evolutionary science belief that new species are born when populations become isolated from one another and hence forcing them to adapt differently. This excellent work by scientists from Swiss provides great evidence that vision can give rise to new species.

Female Pied flycatchers (Ficedula hypoleuca) lays vibrant blue colored eggs ,ensuring their partners stick for long and take care of the eggs.But not many realized that the females are indeed paying a huge price for giving wonderful coloration to the eggs.The blue color in many birds’ eggs comes from the compound biliverdin, a breakdown product of the heme unit in haemoglobin, which circulates freely in the blood. But biliverdin is not just a pigment, it is also an antioxidant used by the body to prevent cellular damage.
